Matsuda Shota and Kutsuna Shiori were caught on a date and holding hands, according to the 7th February issue of FRIDAY. The article mentioned that the two were on a date at Saitama's Tokorozawa Koukuu Kinen Kouen in the beginning of February and went for a meal with another female acquaintance 2 days later and were seen holding hands. When asked about the report, both parties' agencies denied that they were dating and commented that they were just friends. According to insiders, they had come to know each other through a common friend and became good friends since they had similar hobbies. Since Kutsuna was raised in Australia where hugging and holding hands with friends are common, there was no special meaning in her holding friends with Matsuda. When asked about her son supposedly dating Kutsuna, Matsuda's mother i.e. actress Matsuda Miyuki reported said that if it's true, she would be happy for him as long as he's happy.
