Takanashi Rin and Makino Tomoaki, a professional soccer player who is part of the Japanese national team and J-league team Urawa Reds, announced via their respective Instagram accounts on 20 January that they will be getting married. However, there are no details on when they will be filing their marriage application and if they will be holding a wedding. The couple met in early June 2016 by chance at a restaurant and started dating soon after. Makino reportedly proposed to Takanashi late last year.

Makino mentioned in his statement addressed to the supporters of him, Urawa Reds and all soccer lovers that he is about to get married to Takanashi. He commented that 2018 is going to be a very important year for him as he prepares to move ahead with Takanashi who is very important to him and had supported him throughout all the highs and lows with her smile and positiveness since they started dating. At times, she would be harsh but also gentle at the same time which had helped him concentrate fully on his soccer. He also praised Takanashi for her serious attitude towards work and how she strives hard to achieve her goals which he is filled with respect for. Although the two of them are still far from success, he hopes that everyone will look upon them warmly. On the other hand, Takanashi praised her husband-to-be as someone who is always cheerful and optimistic and hopes to build a family full of smiles with him. She also asked for everyone to look upon them warmly going forward.
